Spring Fishing - Topsail Island, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach and Oak Island
Spring is just around the corner and the fishing is really heating up! Everyone dreams of sightfishing large schools of redfish in crystal clear water, and here in North Carolina you can do it just about every day in the spring. The fishing at Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Island, and Carolina Beach has been strong throughout the winter which means it’s only going to get better as we get into spring!
Spring is a special time to fish here along the Coast of North Carolina. Not only is the redfishing strong, we also have a lot of other fishing opportunities popping up. The cobia and large bull redfish begin to migrate north with the warming water temperatures. If you have never sight casted to cobia or bull redfish in the ocean, you are missing out! We target these fish from tower boats and cast to them with large flashy cobia jigs! There is nothing better than watching a cobia or bull redfish engulf a 7 inch lure with ease and then scream drag off your reel. The warming water temperatures also mean that the amberjacks will slide into the nearshore wrecks! Catching amberjacks way offshore in deep water is one thing, but if you want to test your strength there is no better way than pulling on an amberjack in 40-60 feet of water and trying to keep them out of the structure. The best part about targeting amberjacks in shallow water is the fact that we get to throw huge topwater poppers! It’s hard to beat watching amberjacks blow your 8 inch topwater 5 feet in the air just to get smashed by another fish as soon as it hits the water! We also do a ton of flyfishing for these “reef donkeys.”
Spring is also a great time to get your family on the water for a great fishing trip! The redfish and flounder pile up on the jetties and nearshore structure making for consistent nonstop action for the entire family. We love nothing more than taking parents and kids out and creating great fishing memories that will be cherished for a lifetime! Call or email today and let’s get on the water!
