Inshore Fishing

The inshore fishing along the coast of North Carolina is incredible year round.  The inland bays, creeks, and waterways around Wilmington, North Carolina provide great fishing for anglers of all skill levels.  If a nearshore/offshore charter is not your thing, let us take you to explore the backwaters.  Redfish, trout, flounder, and triple tail are just a few of the fish that we encounter during our inshore fishing charters.  It is hard to beat sight-casting to redfish that are busting shrimp in just a few inches of water.  We have so many different options when it comes to inshore fishing, it is easy to customize a trip to exactly what you and your group are looking for.  Growing up on the coast of North Carolina, Capt. Judson Brock knows these inland waters like the back of his hand.

Everything you will need for a day on the water will be included.  We provide all top of the line rods, reels and tackle but feel free to bring your own if you would like.  We will also have ice and waters on the boat, any other drinks or snacks you would like to bring are welcome.

NEAR SHORE FISHING

“Near Shore” includes the water from the beach to about 5 miles off

The near shore waters along coastal North Carolina are loaded with many different types of gamefish year round.  There are many different options for both the novice and the seasoned angler when it comes to booking your near shore fishing trip.  Whether you are looking to fill the cooler or test your skills sightfishing large gamefish, we have the trip for you! A few of the fish we target in our near shore waters include but are not limited to tarpon, cobia, amberjacks, King mackerel, Spanish mackerel, triple tail, bluefish, redfish, black sea bass, sharks, flounder, ladyfish, albacore, and bonita.

Shark fishing has always been a favorite during the warmer summer months.  Test your strength against one of the most underrated fish in the ocean.  Shark fishing is usually non-stop action.  Sharks pushing 200-300 pounds are not uncommon.

During the summer months our two favorite fish to target nearshore are tarpon and cobia.  The tarpon also know as the “Silver King” is hands down the most exciting sport fish there is. As the warming water makes its way up the coast in the spring and early summer, so do the tarpon. We start to see these fish in good numbers as early as June.  Come catch your North Carolina tarpon this summer!  Cobia can be caught many different ways. We prefer to sight fish them from our tower boat, but anchoring around nearshore wrecks and inlets while bait fishing can often times provide a great alternative.

Late summer and early fall are exciting times near shore with swarms of albacore “little tuna”   showing up just off our beaches.  These fish provide an incredible sightfishing opportunity with acres of them often found busting bait on the surface.  Make a cast and hold on because they will burn your drag up!

OFFSHORE & DEEP SEA FISHING

Bottom fishing or trolling the offshore water along our cost can produce trophy fish!  Bottom fishing the near shore and offshore reefs and ledges can produce grouper, sea bass, snapper and so much more.  Loading the cooler up with delicious bottom fish is not hard to do here and it’s a blast!  Trolling the offshore water along North Carolina is a great way to spend the day.  In the summer months we catch king mackerel, mahi-mahi, sailfish, amberjacks, wahoo and much more.

Fly Fishing

Fly Fishing Trips

Fly Fishing is Captain Judson Brock’s passion.  His business was built around the inshore and near shore fly fishing that coastal North Carolina has to offer. Summer time provides exciting opportunities inshore with belly crawling redfish on the mud flats at low tide to tailing redfish in the grass at high tide. In the winter and spring, massive schools of redfish can be found in shallow crystal clear water providing the fly angler with incredible shots.

Though redfish may be our most consistent year round target when it comes to fly fishing here in coastal North Carolina there are many other fish to be caught on fly during the right times of year. Tarpon, ladyfish, triple tail, jacks and sharks are just a few of the other fish that we target inshore here during the warmer months.

Fly fishing is not just limited to our inshore water.  There are many different and exciting options awaiting just off our beaches.  During the summer months we can often be found casting flies into large schools of mackerel and bluefish busting on the surface. If you wish to try your luck at a larger fish, the cobia and amberjacks that hang around our nearshore wrecks are an absolute blast on the fly rod. Often times these fish are eating huge poppers!

In the late summer and early fall the false albacore show up in huge numbers.  The false albacore we see here tend to range from 10 to 15 pounds.  We target these fish when they are up on the surface blitzing on baitfish.  During peak season (September-October) it is not uncommon to see acres of fish at a time up on the surface crushing bait.  When hooked, these fish will immediately have you in your backing. If you want non stop action, this is the fish for you!

TARPON ON THE FLY

The North Carolina tarpon fishery is one of our best kept secrets.  The tarpon show up here in North Carolina around early June as the water temperature creeps into the low 80s.  We have areas to target these fish both inshore as well as just off our beaches.  Targeting tarpon just off our beaches can often times provide more shots, but is a bit more weather dependent.  These migratory fish are not small - the average size typically ranges from 75 to 200 pounds.  A tarpon on the fly is a huge challenge especially here in North Carolina and there is never any guarantees, but if you have the drive to put in the time and the effort that it takes it could be the most rewarding fish of your life!

Shark Fishing

Shark fishing Trips

Shark fishing is one of our favorite things to do in the summer.  These fish are the most underrated gamefish in the ocean with drag screaming runs and often times incurable arial acrobatics. Though there are many different ways to target sharks we really enjoy sightfishing to them in shallow water.  Chumming for these fish allows us to get them close to the boat and within casting range.  Often times we will have 10-20 sharks around the boat at once.  These fish are more than willing to eat most anything you throw to them.  The sharks we catch in this shallow water can range from 50 to 300 pounds.

Ask about night fishing trips for sharks!

Shad & Striper Fishing

IMG_5246-min.jpg

Shad and striper fishing Trips

North Carolina has 4 coastal river systems, these coastal river systems receive large spawning runs of both Striped bass as well as Shad.  When these fish are in the rivers, it can make for exciting nonstop action on both fly and light tackle.  100+ fish days are not uncommon.  The shad and striper runs start as early as late January-early February.  The rivers we focus our time on during the striper and shad runs are the Cape Fear, Neuse, Tar and the Roanoke.  Each river is a bit different but they are all unique in there own way and fun to fish!

From late April through May we spend our time on the upper Roanoke River around Weldon, North Carolina.  This is the end of the road for the large striped bass population that makes it way up river to spawn.  The fly and light tackle fishing for striped bass on the upper Roanoke can be some of the best in the world.

The most productive way to catch these fish is with live bait (typically being large mullet or menhaden) but they can also be caught throwing artificial baits.  The tarpon is considered by many to be the most perfectly designed spot fish, with long screaming runs to explosive arial maneuvers you will always be left wanting more. Join us this summer and see if you can’t lay your hands on a North Carolina Silver King!
